PKS PRESIDENT TIFATUL SEMBIRING CAMPAIGNS IN PADANG

Padang, W Sumatra, March 18 (ANTARA) - Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) president Tifatul Sembiring, thousands of the party's cadres and sympathizers staged an open campaign in Imam Bonjol stadium here Wednesday ahead of the legislative elections.
The Nasyid Shoutul Harokah musicians group and local buskers highlighted the party's open campaign which was also attended by Irwan Prayitno, a legislative candidate from West Sumatra province and Padang Mayor Fauzi Bahar.
On the occasion, some buskers among other things sang Iwan Fals' song such as "Wakil Rakyat" (People's Representatives).
Irwan Prayitno who had the first opportunity to deliver a political oration, explained the party's motto "clean, caring and professional."
He further said that PKS cadres were now urged to bring a change in Indonesia by fighting corruption, adding that so far, none of PKS cadres either in the House of Representatives (DPR) or in the cabinet had been trapped in corrupt actions.
PKS President Tifatul Sembiring confirmed that political party were an entry gate to eradicate corruption. Therefore, PKS had continuously built the capacity of its cadres in a bid to make them clean, caring and professional.
Tifatul also asked the party's cadres and systematizers to avoid electing corruption-tainted candidates to the legislatures.
A three-week open campaigns kicked off on Monday (March 16) and is last until April 5.
A total of 38 political parties and six local parties in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province will participate in the legislative elections on April 9, prior to the presidential election in July, 2009. ***1***
